Parenthesis is when you add extra information to a sentence using commas, brackets or dashes. Let’s start with commas. Commas surround the extra information and the sentence MUST make sense when the extra information is removed like this: My best friend, called Emma, lives next door to me. My best friend lives next door to me. The sentence still makes sense without the extra information within the commas.
Q3. Which of these sentences use the commas for parenthesis correctly?
Doctor Grey, our family doctor, told me to get more sleep.
We saw my, teacher Mr, Harris in the park.
On Thursday, the day after tomorrow, I am going on holiday.
My pet mice, called Sammy and Sally, are adorable.
Q4. Add commas in the correct places in this sentence. Remember they need to surround the extra information: My sister called Iqra loves to go shopping.
Q5. Add commas in the correct place: The flight to Pakistan didn’t take that long.
Q6. Add parenthesis to this sentence. My friend ______________________________________________ makes me laugh a lot.
Q7. Add parenthesis to this sentence: Anne Boleyn ____________________________________________ gave birth to Elizabeth I.
